Kuruvattoor
Kuruvattoor Grama Panchayat is a local self-government institution situated in Kozhikode Taluk of Kozhikode District, under Kunnamangalam Block, and includes Pirayiri Village. The Panchayat has an area of 17.94 square kilometres. Its boundaries are Chelannur and Madavoor Panchayats to the north; Kunnamangalam Panchayat to the east; Kakkodi and Chelannur Panchayats and Kozhikode Corporation to the west; and Kunnamangalam Panchayat and Kozhikode Corporation to the south.
Kuruvattoor was once a region belonging to Kozhikode Taluk of the erstwhile Malabar District in the undivided Madras State. In 1924, the areas of Konottu and Cheruvatta Parambil, which were part of Mayanad Revenue Village, were added to Kuruvattoor Revenue Village. The entire Revenue Village, with an area of 17.94 square kilometres, was included in the Kuruvattoor Panchayat, which was formed in 1961.
Kuruvattoor is a rural area situated slightly above sea level, approximately 14 kilometres east of the Arabian Sea, and adjoining the foothills of the Western Ghats. The historic Poonoor River flows through three parts of the Panchayat. Several small streams, along with a canal of the Kuttiyadi Irrigation Project, also pass through the Panchayat.
The landscape of Kuruvattoor is characterised by 23 large and small hills, along with portions of two other hills. Although the Panchayat is located adjacent to Kozhikode Corporation and is relatively close to the coastal region, its landscape is diverse, comprising hills, valleys, low-lying paddy fields and other rural areas.
